Shannon County Sheriff's Office is located at 18078 2nd Street, Eminence Missouri 65466. was established in 1858, shortly after the formation of Shannon County. The original jail was a log cabin located in Eminence, the county seat. In 1878, the Sheriff's Office was moved to a new brick building, which still stands today as the Detention Center. Currently the the Sheriff's operation is conducted out of the lower level of the County Court House.

Over the years, the Shannon County Jail has housed a number of notable inmates, including:

Jesse James: The notorious outlaw was briefly held in the Shannon County Jail in 1864 after being captured by Union soldiers.

Tom Horn: A legendary lawman and gunfighter, Horn was held in the Shannon County Jail in 1901 after being accused of murdering a cattle rustler.

Charles Arthur Floyd: A notorious bank robber, Floyd was held in the Shannon County Jail in 1931 after being captured by police.
